ronnycakes reviews: El Meson; Jalan Telawi 3, Bangsar

El Meson is pretty hard to miss  in Bangsar (right opposite BV II and next to Madam Kwan’s) and I have absolutely no idea how I’ve overlooked it for the past 3 or so years that it has been operating in Jalan Telawi 3.
The pork burger in El Meson has been raved about by other food bloggers so Wils and I decided to take a trip and find out whether it was really that good.

I love places that give free starters! :D
Bread and (garlic) butter. We’ve learned to hold off the starters while waiting for the food since we stuff ourselves way overboard before the actual main dishes arrive.

The garlic butter is really good, not overpowering at all.

The star of the show: The Ultimate Pork Burger (RM28)
Topped with cheese, mushroom, bacon and caramelized onions in a sesame bun, served with homemade fried potatoes.

Look at the thickness of the pork patty! So juicy and full of flavour. Not like those crappy patties that are dry and bland. Abundance of caramelised onions, bacon bits and cheese were also sandwiched between the patty and bread for that extra oomph.

I always love places that make fried potatoes and fries well because of how majority of places either make them too oily, too bland, or to salty. The ones at El Meson are fluffy on the inside, nicely salted and not oily so thumbs up! :D

Arroz Negro “Socarraet” (RM32 for a 1 person portion) – Crispy Black Rice with Grilled Squid, Prawns, Artichokes and Allioli.
This was a bit like baked paella, the exterior was a crispy baked (?) crust while the interior was soft and moist just like paella should be. The accompanying squid was tender and very well seasoned with salt and pepper – I absolutely loved every bit of it!

P1070634
Garnished with deep fried squid tentacles, an artichoke and a dollop of that creamy garlic butter that came with the starter bread.

P1070646
Moist black rice on the inside.

We have to conclude that the food at El Meson is wonderful, and has one of the best pork burgers we’ve tried so far (beats the one at Kissaten according to Wils) at a price that is not too unreasonable for the quality of food that you’re getting.
Do head down to El Meson if you’re in Bangsar area and are on the hunt for good pork burgers and Spanish food, you’ll definitely be pleased with the standard of food there. :)
