ronnycakes reviews: Prawn Mee @ Yong Len Coffeeshop, Taman Tun Dr Ismail

Of all the prawn mee that I’ve tried in KL thus far, the best as got to be the prawn mee at TTDI. Apparently I’m not the only one that thinks so, as Yong Len is quite famous amongst foodies for its prawn mee. The lady manning the stall is also very friendly, and came over to chat with my mum when we finished our meal. Her little worker is also very friendly especially when my mum told her we were taking photos of the food for a food blog, she replied “lain kali cakap dengan saya, saya buat cantik cantik untuk you ambil gambar!”

Clarissane on the other hand thinks that nothing can rival the Prawn Mee in Penang but we’re looking for good ones in KL! The one at Yong Len is definitely up to scratch. :p

The coffeeshop gets really crowded during lunchtimes and parking is a horror. One alternative would be to park in the housing area opposite the shop, but you’ll have to walk a distance and risk having your car saman-ed. xp

Ahhh prawn mee (RM4.00 for small bowl, RM4.50 for large). My favourite seafood immortalized in a bowl of noodles (wtf drama much).
Ingredients are beansprouts, kangkung, pork slices, halved mini prawns and lots of shallots for extra flavour. Just look at the prawn and chili oil in the soup.. tell me this doesn’t entice you at all. :P The soup of pork bones and prawn shells is delicious, not too salty or too sweet or too spicy, its just nice for me. For those who prefer extra kick in their noodles, sambal is provided for you to mix with the soup.

Word of warning however, the small bowl is pretty small and definitely not enough for one person unless your appetite is really tiny. Either order a large bowl, or have something else from the coffeeshop!

My mum and I have a habit of ordering one small prawn mee each and going on to order another Char Kuey Teow (RM 4.30) which is also one of the highlights of this shop. It comes with all the good stuff, cockles and large prawns as well as beansprouts and fried egg. Wok hei is definitely strong in this one! However, the standard seems to be a bit inconsistent as when I had this the other day, it was tasteless as if the guy had forgotten to put salt. xD
But usually its really good. Not overly oily or dry and full of flavour.

If you’re in the area and looking for something for lunch, do drop by this place and try out the Prawn Mee and Char Kuey Teow!

Address:
Restoran Yong Len
Taman Tun Dr Ismail

One tip: ask for extra sambal with the prawn mee and mix it all together. Although it still cannot beat the one in Penang, but with the extra sambal its pretty good :P but sometimes the lady can be stingy with her soup =.=
