Wils and ronnycakes reviews: Haute Food Co @ Plaza Damas

Ever since I read about Haute Food Co’s Dark Chocolate Whiskey Cherry Cake, I’ve yearned and yearned to go and try the food there but Clarissane always had another place she wanted to go to before visiting Haute Food…. :P

So on a lazy Saturday, the three of us finally made it to the quaint little shop located in one of the shop alleys of Plaza Damas. Tables are scarce especially inside the shop so we were lucky to get one. Patrons can also dine al fresco if the weather isn’t too hot.

Haute Food Co has a permanent menu but some their daily specials and desserts changes day to day, so what you see on the chalkboard and in the chiller might be there today, but not tomorrow. I suppose this helps to shake things up a little bit for people as it’s not the same old thing when they come back for a second visit.

The interior is small but cosy, with cute drawings adorning the walls and white wooden furnishings.

Adorable as they are, the ‘hedgehogs’ are actually about their signature croissants.

Cute drawings decorating every table. :D

We had the Berry Mint Lemonade (RM 9.50) which was a refreshing blend of lemon, mixed berries and mint leaves. Loved this as I’m a huge fan of anything minty!

DSC_0136The mint actually gives an extra kick, making it their signature drink.

Clarissane swore the Mocha (RM9) was on par with Starbucks’.

DSC_0186One of the daily specials, the Fish and Chili Garlic on Fettucini Pasta (RM 15.90) came with an abundance of fish and was tossed with light tomato sauce.

What I personally love most about this pasta is that its very soothing at the same shows no sign of lacking in flavour.

DSC_0203This is the Smoked Chicken, Sundried Tomato Pesto and Cheese (RM11.90). Not to fazed with this entree as it was rather ordinary.

DSC_0169The Vegetarian Black Bean Soup is RM 9.90. A highly nutritious dish that makes a great lunch.

DSC_0176The Smoked Salmon and Zucchini Tart (RM15.90) was fluffy albeit a little too bland for my liking.

The widely regarded Tiramisu.

DSC_0252Perfect blend between coffee, cocoa and liquor.

The Chocolate Hazelnut Grand Marnier Cake!

DSC_0246
I loved this cake as it was soft and not overly moist; full of hazelnuts which went so well with the chocolate.

Fresh from the oven with a crisp exterior and an interior that is equally light and fluffy in a rich buttery flavour.

Sadly to say the Whiskey Cherry cake that I so badly wanted to try wasn’t available on the day so that means another visit is on the cards! To be honest, the hot food isn’t really much to shout about but the desserts are worth trying out.
In my opinion, it’s a great place to have tea or cakes with friends but bear in mind it closes mid-afternoon so don’t make the mistake that I did, going at 5pm and expecting to still be able to have cakes. :(
