ronnycakes reviews: Porto Romano, Mon’t Kiara

Porto Romano has opened a branch in Mon’t Kiara for a couple of years already but I only recently visited the restaurant to try the Italian food after one of my friends gave a strong recommendation.

Porto Romano is actually a fusion of Mediterranean and Italian cuisine hence items on the menu may not be conventionally Italian.

Old Hollywood movie posters adorn the walls along the stairs.

The Mon't Kiara restaurant has two storeys and is very spacious and also al fresco dining both upstairs and downstairs.

We had the Spaghetti Vongole with White Wine (RM30) which was incredible. It was moist and flavorful and the clams were fresh. The addition of lots of chopped up garlic added to the aroma of the dish.

So much garlic! ♥

The Lemon Butter Sole Fish Fillet (RM38) was superb as well.
The fish was fresh and grilled to a crispy perfection with copious amounts of tangy lemon sauce. Even a non-fish eater like me couldn’t stay away from this one. :p

It comes with some lightly grilled potatoes, carrots, capsicum and zucchini.

The Seafood Risotto (RM32) was amazing as well. The rice was not overly mushy, seafood was fresh and there was an abundance of prawns which I absolutely love. Taste-wise it was fantastic! :)

Although the price of the food here may be on the steep side, the quality and taste of food prepared is worth every penny! Since the dishes were so flavorful I expected to get really thirsty (thanks to crazy usage of MSG at some places) but I was pleasantly surprised when I was not, definitely a plus point.

Porto Romano also makes their own chili sauce which reminds me a little of Tabasco sauce – except tangier and spicier. It went really well with the fish!

I did not get a bad recommendation from my friend and I’m very glad to have found a place which serves such great Italian food especially when it’s within a 5km radius from where I stay. A great place to have lunch or dinner or to celebrate birthdays or any sort of special occasion as I hear it can get quite romantic at night, having candles lit up on the tables.
