ronnycakes reviews: Giant Macaron @ Delectables by Su, Gardens Mall

I have never been a huge fan of macarons to be honest, I find them a little too sweet for my liking. Especially the ones at *cough* *cough* Levain *cough*.
But since I’ve heard really good things about the macaroons from Delectables and have been reassured that they’re not sickeningly sweet AND the added factor that they are huge (bigger than my palm), I took the plunge and tried one!

The packaging is really lovely. I picked out the Salted Chocolate Macaron for RM10 per piece. RM10 per piece is actually pretty reasonable since macarons do get pretty pricey (averaging around RM3-4 for the normal seized ones) and these are huge.

The macaron is an adorable shade of pale pink with a generous dark chocolate ganache centre.

The texture of the macaron was lovely, crunch on the outside and soft on the inside. The dark chocolate ganache filling was also not too sweet and had the right amount of richness.
On the other hand, I didn’t taste any salted chocolate and the macaroon was still a little too sweet for my liking. They really have to start being a little more light-handed on the sugar when it comes to macarons.

The macarons really are huge, I had to split and eat it 2 separate occasions and I have to say it started to get a bit addictive after a while despite the sweetness.

If you’re a fan of macarons this comes highly recommended! If you’re not a fan, its worth a try as well because for the price you are paying it is quite worth your money. And it tastes good and looks good too! What’s not to love?

Note: Macaroons and Macarons are actually two different things! The authentic French spelling for these sweet pastries is actually macaron. Check wiki for more information on what Macaroons REALLY are!

I dont think they can be light handed on the sugar. Making macarons is quite a precise art.

If you look at a recipe on how to make macarons, you will be shocked to see how much icing sugar they use. That is why I never make them cos I think I would cringe and never eat a macaron again.

Oh no, really? I think I won't look at the recipe then or I'll swear off macarons forever! =\
